MCCRAE SUBURB PROFILE

Known for the tall-standing Lighthouse on the foreshore, this McCrae suburb profile which originally marked the turning point for shipping vessels as they entered the heads and made their way to Melbourne, McCrae originally took its name from husband and wife duo, Andrew and Georgiana McCrae.
Oozing history, the vibrant town is proud of its deep connections to the early settlers, with a handful of residential streets proudly named after the first families.

ACTIVITIES IN MCCRAE

Although an easily identifiable icon, the Eastern Lighthouse is not the only historical building preserved within McCrae. Bordered by native scrub, the McCrae Homestead is the original home (1844), designed by Georgiana and built by Andrew McCrae, and provides a unique opportunity to explore the associated
suburban history.

Four parks, including the suburb-spanning foreshore reserve, occupy over 21% of the suburb and include a plethora of nature trails and lookouts, whilst the McCrae Yacht Club provides boating enthusiasts with the facilities they require. The lively cafe scene adds energy and activity to the relaxed beachside suburb, whilst McCrae Plaza provides everyday living essentials, including supermarket, bakery and newsagency.

The soft, white sands and family-friendly shallow waters of McCrae beach cements the coastal appeal to holiday-makers and residents, alike. And although many homes are used purely for holiday intent, the palpable community presence is obvious, with many gravitating to McCrae for the ‘outdoorsy’, social
lifestyle the suburb presents.
